1. How long have you been involved in the scene
Since 1995.
2. What are your plans for the rest of this year?
Well, as we speak I’m in negotiation with some A-List producers so going to be voicing some DnB tracks which is something I haven’t put enough time and effort into the past few years as I have been voicing Hiphop, Breakbeat and Electro so time to go back my roots! Putting together an EP to come out September 2008. My diary is pretty busy over next few months so just working the raves while I write songs and concentrate on promotion (same old lol).
After Singing with the enemy on BBC3 Don Diva has got a lot of interest from the Hiphop industry so we’re working on our album as well, taking time to develop ourselves as a group which can be quite tedious! We have another TV show that I’ll be filming mid-year for Channel 4 so keep your eyes peeled for that.
Myself and DJ Trickles are opening The British DJ & MC Academy at the Trumans Brewery in Brick Lane, working with all ages but targeting schools and young people so we can start putting something back into the community. I have also been doing a lot of work in youth centres and schools teaching song-writing and performance to help the young people express themselves in a positive and creative manner, over everything, including my own career I think it’s really important! www.myspace.com/britishdjacademy
I have been nominated as Best Female MC 2008 for National DNB Awards to vote www.drumandbassawards.com - what a blessing too as it’s the first year ANY DNB AWARDS have put a female mc category. So times are definitely changing! Brap!
3. How did you get into what you’re doing
Well, I’ve always been lyrical since I can remember even going back to when I was eleven, I was on a TV show and I wrote my first rap (we were the Rapping Witches lol) and it won a prize, ‘Top Banana’ for all the 80’s babies. Me and my dad used to write songs, he played the guitar so he was a huge influence for me musically. My mum listened to a lot of Jazz music so I always had that in my bones and my Dad listened to everything, from Bob Marley to U2. I started listening to Salt & Peppa around the same time and I really loved how sexy and talented they were, I looked up to them (it was the first album I bought). I didn’t think at that time I’d be an MC now but that’s where it all started.
4. Do you remember your first Rave -
Hell yeah - well over 18s! Club Labyrinth, I loved it there so much every Friday without fail I was there and funny enough they were the first promoters to book me and give me a residency at just aged 16 (1996)!
5. Can you remember your first play out?
See above.
6. Who in the scene inspired you to want to be a part of it? -
In the dnb scene, well, Deemas J was my biggest inspiration, he was a brother to me, he would pick me up, take me to rave and take me home. I would watch him tear up dances with his versatile styles, IC3 to me was amazing, he would always make sure I got on the mic even though I was terrible back then with my squeaky voice! Lol Other MC’s like Stevie Hyper D, Fearless & MC Wicked.
7. Do you feel the scene is in a healthy state? -
Well, it’s developing all the time. I just wish some of the beats would tell a story like back in the day. Some tunes are heavy but they don’t take you on a journey like they used to. Some promoters are not putting the full effort in, thinking about the whole CONCEPT of the event. I love events like Raindance coz you really have fun - there is so much to do while listening to good music. A lot of people complain that there are not enough women raving in the scene and there’s too much man. I must say, I think this is a reflection of the artists. If there were more female DJ’s and MC’s being booked there would be more female ravers. I know this because I get so much email / messages everyday from chicks saying the same thing, but who knows!

13. Do you play any sport? -

I am doing a sponsored bike ride from London to Amsterdam, 300 KM over 3 days, I hope I survive! I’m doing it for a charity I work for a charity called Spirituality for Kids (SFK) it is a global educational children’s charity.
